I'm thankful for my "babies" too - this is Charlotte, better known as Beanie.
I just wanted to touch on thankfulness for a minute. Today I am thankful that the weather is 45 degrees and sunny, that I could drive with the top down and enjoy the sun. I am thankful for my friends and family, who support me in whatever I do. I am thankful for my fabulous clients and for my amazing VA, Laura Jo. I am thankful that I have my own business and that it allows me the freedom that I need to be happy. I am thankful that I have the best husband in the world.
What are YOU thankful for today? Who are you thankful for? Have you told them lately?
Tip of the day: Tell someone why you are thankful for them – it’ll make you feel great!
We had a situation over the weekend – a teenage kid was looking for something to do and ended up talking to me while I worked in the yard for a couple hours. While he was a nice kid, what he was really looking for was friends to hang out with and spend time with. He was lonely and bored and started to think that we would be able to fill that need on a long term basis.
It really brought to mind how important it is for all of us to have and maintain friendships. A strong friendship can nourish us in times of need and allow us the same gift – to be able to nourish others in their need. A friendship can give us a place to laugh and a place to cry, bring us new interests and new insights, broaden our minds and our horizons. With true friends we can have differing opinions and goals, yet still be close.
Everyone is so busy, living their lives, running their businesses, going to work, dealing with the family, that friendships can fall by the wayside when we’re not looking. The problem is, once this happens, it can be very difficult to bring them back. If we didn’t need our friends, this wouldn’t matter but we do need them!
We are living with increasing isolation in a world that is instantly connected. As a Virtual Assistant, I can end up not leaving the house for over a week. I mean literally, not leave the house. Without the connections that I have with my friends, life would be very lonely and boring. I need to hear about everyone else’s commute so that I’m thankful I don’t have one. I need to hear about them going out to lunch so that I can wish I was with them, and then make plans to do so. I need to have someone I can email at a moment’s notice and go have Thai food and get pedicures. Without my friends, I would be boring. My friends help make me who I am.
So today, my Tip of the day is: Do something nice for a friend you haven’t contacted in a while. Make an effort to keep the friendship, you won’t be sorry!
Here's Duncan being serious - He keeps me happy during the day!
